Who are we ?

Active in Morbier for over 300 years

That noble artefact the oil lamp was by no means born yesterday! Its lineage can be traced back over 300 years to a family from the Jura region.

In 1690, the first Gaudard set up shop in a watermill in Morbier and turned his hand to the manufacture of pendulums for comtoise clocks.

In 1869, Auguste Gaudard sets up his first die-stamping workshop there.

The Brooklyn presses

In 1902, master craftsman turned industrialist and a true pioneer, Auguste inaugurated the present factory at 138 route Blanche and set about manufacturing his first oil burners on the 30 drawing presses he had purchased in Brooklyn (USA) and had delivered to Morbier by special train.

Success was his, and the Brooklyn presses were never to lie idle again! Four generations have succeeded one another: Léon, Armand and Pierre, Jean-Jacques and Josette, and finally Catherine Gaudard, who continues a family name that has become an internationally renowned brand.

Industrially manufactured, finished by craftsmen

With continuity and tradition as its mainstays, the Gaudard company is part of the Jura region’s industrial heritage. Today as yesterday, the Gaudard lamps exported to all four corners of the world bear witness to the know-how of a brand that has well and truly made a name for itself. Constructed using industrial processes and specialised machinery, Gaudard lamps are subjected to strict quality control at every stage of their manufacture. As has always been the case, all materials employed - brass, copper, earthenware, porcelain, stoneware and glass alike - are of the very finest quality. And the impeccable finish is still the result of hands-on craftsmanship.

A magical pleasure

Mark of true affection, magical meeting of flame and felicity, of poetry and pleasure, an oil lamp makes a symbolic gift.

Labelisation EPV

In 2010, the company obtained the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant - Living Heritage Company) label awarded by the Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry.

The label is a mark of recognition rewarding French companies for the excellence of their traditional and industrial know-how.

In 2011, the company was recognised by the INMA (Institut National des Métiers d’Art - National Arts and Crafts Institute).

These two distinctions serve to further reinforce the company’s determination to promote “Made in France” craftwork and manufacture.
